Recording a board meeting to turn into minutes

How to record your meeting

Remote or hybrid meeting: record on Zoom

Zoom has helpful guidance on how to record meetings on your computer and on your phone.

  • Start the recording: Once your meeting begins, click the Record button in the bottom toolbar of your Zoom window.
  • Choose “Record to the Cloud”: This ensures you don’t have to hunt for a file on your computer afterward.
  • Confirm the alert: Listen for the “Recording in Progress” audio prompt to ensure the session is being captured for your minutes.
Tip: Let the rest of the board know you’re recording the meeting. As a reminder, your data stays private and secure.

In-person meeting: record with your smartphone

Before you hit record, turn on “Do Not Disturb” or “Airplane Mode.” This prevents a loud ringtone or vibration from interrupting your recording—and your meeting.

  • Open your voice memo app: Use the pre-installed “Voice Memos” (iPhone) or “Voice Recorder” (Android) app that came with your phone.
  • Place your phone for clear audio: Place the phone in the center of the table, ideally on a notepad or cloth to prevent “table thumping” noises.
  • Press record: Tap the red button to start capturing. Once the meeting ends, tap it again to save the file so you can upload it to Minutes Mojo.
Tip: Let the rest of the board know you’re recording the meeting. As a reminder, your data stays private and secure.
